Deadly Vice
I’ve never really felt comfortable with a gun in my hands. That might sound strange coming from a guy who grew up in Wyoming, but it’s the truth. When my friends and I used to play war when we were kids, I always wanted to be the general, directing troop movements and thinking up strategies, instead of a soldier. When I was old enough to consider real military service, I decided a rifle wasn’t for me. Guns look cool on TV, sure, but in reality they’re heavy and REALLY loud. It takes a lot of practice to become a good, reliable marksman, and frankly, I’ve never been a patient sort of dude.
Don’t get me started on hunting. In theory, it sounds like a great time, tramping around outdoors with your friends, maybe tossing back a couple of brews. I did go quail hunting once, but it turned into a total disaster. We were out on a friend’s ranch, and I was doing okay for a while. My buddy managed to down a bird, and then some idiot in our party flushed out another covey. Well, I tracked one of those birds with my shotgun, and I was pretty excited, because nobody wants to be the guy who doesn’t hit anything. Long story short, I ended up shooting my pal in the face. It was pretty embarrassing, as you can imagine; the guy had a heart attack, and the Secret Service were awfully pissed at me. Eventually I apologized and we patched things up, but I swore to myself that day that I’d never fire a shotgun again as long as I lived.
Nowadays, whenever I get the urge to pull a trigger, I just bust out my Nintendo Wii. I found this WiiPAL Shotgun Light Gun for my Wii Remote and Nunchuk Controllers for an absolute steal online, and it makes playing all the different shooting games a real hoot. I just secure the controllers inside the gun and I’m ready to play. It’s not exactly a secret that I’m a terrible shot, but my Light Gun came with a removable laser sight. Thanks to that handy red dot, I always know where my shotgun blasts will land! There’s a handle on the barrel that I can flip up or down depending on whether I’m using a rifle in the game or a submachine gun. This Wii Light Gun makes North American Hunting Extravaganza a blast, but my favorite game is Call of Duty: World at War. It feels great to fight a war without being asked a million questions about it, and I’m halfway through defeating the Axis Powers already. Mission Accomplished!
