That’s my ID!  Why do you ask?  Is there a problem?

Well… yeah.  Obviously, I can only sell alcohol to customers with a valid ID.  Driver’s license, U.S. passport, military ID… those are the only documents I can accept.  The ID you handed me is obviously fake.

What!  That’s preposterous!  What in the world would make you say such a thing?

Well, first of all, this photo isn’t of you.  If I’m not mistaken, this is a picture of Guns ‘N Roses front man Axl Rose circa 1988.

Oh… heh heh.  Classic rock fan, are you?

Actually, I’m more into Motown—the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Jackson Five.  It’s just that Axl Rose is extremely famous.  Also, you misspelled Massachusetts.  It has two Ts.

It does?  I mean, yeah, it does!  But that’s a recent change, right?  Wow, my driver’s license is a rare factory variant!  What are the odds?

Sir, it’s a fake.  Even classic Motown artist Stevie Wonder could see that.  This ID appears to have been laminated at home.  I’m guessing you used a GBC HeatSeal Creative 9" Laminator Kit?

Wow.  How’d uh… How’d you know that?

Well, sir, it’s an extremely popular laminator.  The HeatSeal is an affordable choice for all home, school, and small office laminating jobs.  It can be used for anything from crafting bookmarks or drink coasters to creating ID badges or luggage tags to protecting photos or recipes.  Believe it or not, a lot of kids try to purchase alcohol from my store using fake IDs laminated using one.  Probably because it comes with two 5-pack self adhesive glossy pouches, making it ready to use out of the box.

Wow!  You’re right!  You know, it was incredibly easy to use… I’m just surprised you were able to tell the ID wasn’t real!

Sir, while the GBC HealSeal Creative 9” Laminator Kit is great for preserving important documents, it’s not terribly effective at replicating the look of a government ID.  I should know—I used to work at the DMV.  Also, this says you were born in 1989, and judging by your salt-and-pepper comb-over, you’re clearly over 50 years old.  Why did you bother to make a fake ID?

I, uh…  wanted to see if I could still pass for 21.  Guess not.  You know what?  Never mind.
