Updating a classic

Some toys just aren’t built like they used to be these days.  Take my ’57 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible, for example.  It’s roomy, fuel-efficient, and tastefully designed.  Those features, along with the car’s affordability made it an American classic.  My father and I restored that Chevy ourselves, and believe me, we’re no mechanics.  That’s the beauty of the thing—not only is it stylish, it’s simple.  If the Chevy breaks down, I don’t have to run a computer diagnostic to find out which sensor is on the fritz.  I just open the hood and have a look.  There’s not a car being produced today that compares.

I love that Chevy like a member of the family, but don’t get it twisted:  Some toys are built a lot more ingeniously today than they were back then.  If I’m cruising down the boulevard in the ’57 and I want to hear some tunes to complete the experience, my options are pretty limited.  There’s no MP3 input in the dash.  There’s no CD player.  Hell, there’s not even an 8-track deck.  The ’57 Bel Air came with an AM/FM radio, and it’s getting harder and harder to find the Beach Boys on that dial.  My old Dodge Stratus may have caught fire and burned to the ground due to a simple oil leak, but at least that plastic turd played music!  If a modern JVC stereo wouldn’t ruin the car’s classic looks

Now, when the best technology of the past is combined with the digital innovations of the present, that’s when you get something really special.  That’s why I bought the Bel Air an iLuv Digital FM Radio Transmitter for Valentine’s Day.  I just plug the iLuv into my iPhone’s headphone jack, tune the Bel Air’s radio to an unused FM station, and listen to the iLuv broadcast any MP3 in my collection over the Chevy’s speakers.  The iLuv runs on AAA batteries, which is perfect, because the ’57 Bel Air didn’t come with a cigarette lighter to plug it into.  Thanks to this handy gadget, I can listen to whatever I want in my classic car for this first time since it was built.

It took 53 years, but thanks to the iLuv FM Transmitter, I’ve finally improved on the ’57 Chevy.

The iLuv has some good reviews on the web.  I found a bunch on Google Products here.  BuyersHQ appears to have the lowest price online at the moment.

I'm in for one. I like that it runs on batteries instead of the cigarette lighter plug. I want to use it to listen to mp3s on my bedroom stereo.
