When I was in school, my mom used to be a tad overly concerned that I had turned on enough lights when I read.  “Honey, turn that light on,” she’d say.  “That’s bad for your eyes.”  Truth be told, I found it to be a huge pain at the time.  If I couldn’t see the words on the page, why would I be reading? I didn’t think it was necessary to turn on a signal beacon every time I wanted to enjoy “Garfield Loses His Feet.”

Now that I’m old, I see what she was talking about.  Or rather, I don’t.  I can’t see a damn thing.  Ironically, it wasn’t reading semi-humorous comic strips in the dark that did my eyes in, but staring into artificial light.  Years of working behind a computer monitor have all but wrecked my vision.  I’m convinced I’ll have cataracts by the time I’m 40.

Of course, I DO like to stare into the monitor in the dark… maybe my mom was on to something.  I’m going to try using our deal of the day, the halogen desk lamp, for a couple of weeks every time I use my computer.  Should be interesting to see if my eyes feel any different.  I’ll post the results to the Buyers HQ Facebook page.
