It’s great having a 6-in-1 screwdriver set that ensures you’ve got the proper tool for any screw. But what about the peskier screws that won’t budge? Maybe they’re rusty, maybe they’re bent, maybe they’re stripped. Here are a few tips on how to loosen even the most messed-up screws with no power tools:
1. Go ahead and make sure you’re turning the screw in the right direction. You’d be surprised how stupid this step can make you feel.
2. Lube it up! Spray those stuck screws down with WD-40 or some penetrating oil and let it soak for a bit. Next, insert your screwdriver and give it a tap with a hammer to loosen up the rust and grime.
3. Flame on! Try hitting your frozen screws with some direct heat courtesy of a plumber’s torch or a soldering gun. Oil is flammable, so if you used any on the screw, mop it up first.
4. It the screw’s head is wrecked or stripped, but it’s not flush with the surface it’s screwed into, you can flatten its edges with a metal file. Next, grip the head’s flat edges with pliers and give it a turn.
5. If that doesn’t work, take a small hacksaw and cut a flat slot through the middle of the screw’s head. Then loosen the screw with a flat-head bit from your 6-in-1 Screwdriver Set.

The worst thing one can do is not to try, to be aware of what one wants and not give in to it, to spend years in silent hurt wondering if something could have materialized - never knowing.
