Remember life before USB flash drives?  We used to have to carry our files around on floppy disks.  They were so floppy, in fact, that you could wreck one just by sitting on it, getting it wet, or placing it near a magnet.  Weak.  I’ve got a flash drive that’s been through the washing machine no less than three times and it still works perfectly.  Oh, and it holds the same amount of data as 700+ floppies did.  Which is nice.

USB flash drives are great because they’re portable, indestructible, and versatile.  I use one to store my documents, one as a backup to my desktop, and one to play MP3s in my car. Oh, you didn’t know?  Thanks to the flash drive, nowadays you can plug $6.99 worth of plastic into your dashboard and play more than 250 songs.  Look it up. The last time I left a floppy disk in my car, the stupid thing melted.  Hurray 2010!
