In these heady days of high-speed Internet and built-in wireless cards, quality wireless routers like the Airlink 101 are a necessity.  It wasn’t always that way, of course.  Time was, a single dial-up or high-speed connection was all any home required.  You just plugged your cable of choice into the back of your desktop computer, logged in, and started complaining about your favorite sports team online.

What changed that?  When did a single hard-line Internet connection become insufficient?  Well, I can’t pinpoint the exact time and date it happened; it’s not like I’ve been taking notes.  But wireless routers definitely took off when personal computers became necessary and affordable enough for families to buy two or more instead of sharing a single desktop.  In my household, we have as many computers as television sets, and we’re so poor I have to write for a living!

If you’re buying a new laptop or netbook for Christmas, chances are you’re going to need a wireless router, too.  You can thank us on the 26th!
