My GPS device has really changed the way I drive, and it's been just great. I never get lost anymore, for one thing, and I was able to throw out all my maps, so there's a lot more room in the glove compartment for concealed firearms. The turn-by-turn directions make it so easy to navigate that I'm comfortable letting my seven-year-old niece drive me around town if I feel like taking a nap on the way to the mall. It's amazing.

Sometimes, though, I feel like my GPS gets a little annoyed with me.  Maybe I'm imagining things, but sometimes I think my TomTom takes a "tone" with me when I miss a turn. The female voice will spew out this terse "recalculating" and sound all indignant when it tells me to "turn around when possible." The GPS sounds especially snooty when I have it set to the British accent. "Take the motorway" is NOT supposed to sound that condescending. So when my GPS starts turning its nose up, I like to blow its mind. Sometimes I'll take it out on my boat off the Florida Keys and tell it to find the quickest route to Tanzania. Other times I'll ask it to take me to the corner of Eleventy-sixth Avenue and George Harrison. Boy, it has no idea what to do then! It helps keep TomTom humble. I feel that's an essential part of any working relationship.  It also helps to switch to the GPS' Australian accent... the turn-by-turn directions always crack me up when it sounds like they're being sung by Men at Work.
